The Incident Command System, or ICS, is the standardized management system used by the federal government, and many state and local governments, to organize disaster response. Using common terminology, forms, organizational structure and principles, it allows many different agencies and jurisdictions to work together towards a common goal. Basic knowledge of the ICS system is required by many emergency management agencies for anyone who wants to participate in disaster response.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand the purpose of the Incident Command System.
- Identify standard terms used in the Incident Command System.
- Identify the major roles of the Incident Command System, including Command Staff, General Staff, and the roles and agreements made between different jurisdictions.
- Understand the role of animal disaster response in the overall ICS disaster response network.
